GENERAL INFORMATION AND QUILT CATEGORIES
THIS WILL BE A JUDGED SHOW
NOTE: A quilt consists of 3 layers: 2 layers of cloth filled with “batting” material held together by stitched design.
Quilt may be embellished with material other than cloth, but tied quilts will not be accepted.
ALL QUILTS MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED BY: March 15, 2023.

One form required for each quilt or item entered in show,

You may enter more than one quilt in a given Category. However, no one may enter more than ten (10) quilts in the show.

Entry fee is $5.00 per quilt for non-DQG members. Payable to Decatur Quilt Fest.

Quilts may not have been entered in a DQG competition in the last five (5) years.

Only quilted items are considered for judging. Yo-Yo quilts, crazy quilts, or cathedral windows without batting will not be judged.

The Registration Committee reserves the right to refuse any quilt.

The Registration Committee reserves the right to change a quilt category.

The Judge reserves the right not to judge a quilt.

All judged items will receive a written evaluation from the judge.
Quilt Drop Off: Decatur Civic Center on Thursday April 13, 2023, 9:00 am to 11:00 am
Quilt Pick Up: Decatur Civic Center on Saturday, April 15, 2023 between 5:00 pm and 5:45 pm

QUILT CATEGORIES – QUILTS OVER 64” ON ANY SIDE
100 - Antique
A quilt that was finished over 75 years ago, including the top, quilting, and binding. Any technique of piecing, applique or embroidery. Machine or hand quilted.
200 - Appliqué
The predominant design element must be APPLIQUE and sewn by hand
300 - Appliqué
The predominant design element must be APPLIQUE and sewn on machine
400 - Embroidery
The predominant design element must be EMBROIDERY and sewn by hand
500 - Embroidery
The predominant design element must be EMBROIDERY and sewn on machine
600 - Mixed Technique
An even amount of both piecing and applique, or embroidery by hand or machine.
Quilting by hand or machine.
700 - Hand Quilted
Hand Quilted; Hand or Machine pieced.
800 - Free Motion Quilting
Free Motion Quilting; Machine pieced
900 - Computerized Quilting
Computerized Quilting ; Machine pieced
1000 - Whole Cloth
Whole cloth quilts; Quilting by hand or machine.
1100 - Embellished Techniques
Heavily embellished quilts & those with very special techniques such as thread art or trapunto.
QUILT CATEGORIES – SPECIAL SIZING
1200 - Baby Quilt
Max of 64” on any side Crib Quilts for a child using any method of piecing/quilting.
1300 - Miniature
Max of 24” x 24”on any side Quilts that are scaled from full size designs to a miniature size.
1400 - Small Wall Hanging
Max of 36” on all sides Quilted piece that may or may not be made for the purpose of hanging on a wall.
1500 - Large Wall Hanging
Minimum of 36” but Max of 64” on all sides Quilted piece that may or may not be made for the purpose of hanging on a wall.
1600 - Panel Quilt
No size limitation-- The predominant design element includes a Panel with additional piecing, applique or embroidery added; No size limitation
1700 - Christmas Quilt Project
No size limitation—Any quilted, applique, embroidery project with the Christmas theme.
1800 - Home Décor, Clothing, Accessories, Bag/Duffle
No size- Quilted home decor items such as table runners, bed skirts, tree skirts. Quilted clothing such as vests or jackets. Accessories such as bags, duffle bags or purses
1900 - Youth Category
No size limitation-- Any quilted project completed by a youth; Elementary/Middle School
2000 - Youth Category
No size limitation-- Any quilted project completed by a youth; High School
